I posted this question inside a separate post I made, but I figured I might get a better response if I make a new posting.  I have seen some ASC3000 controllers recently and was wondering if the functionality of the ASC3000 is any different than the ASC?  I understand the ASC3000 was made by a separate company that Lionel bought out and I did notice that the Lionel version has an additional COM hookup to allow for jumpers to the next ASC in line, but other than that they seem the same.  The operation manual seems the same as well.

Finally, will the ASC3000 work with the LCS app using an SER2?  I would assume so as it seems the ASC is compatible.  Thanks for the help.

There is a limit, the number of ASC or ASC 3000, that can be added to the Serial port before the signal degrades. No one seems to commit to that number.  I did O.K. with this many. Note the two to the left are BPC's (Block Power Controllers), IC Controls BPC, and Lionel BPC are slightly different.  The TPC's also add to the number of devices wired for signal.

(10) devices pictured. (2) TPC's, (2) BPC 3000's, (6) ASC 3000's.  Command base is to the right of this picture.

TMCC command base lower right. I used twisted pair 24 ga. Cat 5 data wire to daisy chain the devices after the first cable from the Command Base to the right side TPC.

Devices, (technology) pictured, was installed originally 13 years ago. I have been able to acquire spare parts from this forum on occasion.  (Old)

Wow that is a pretty amazing setup you have there.  I just bough three ASC3000's last night on the bay for $75 total.  Two are used and one is supposedly new old stock. I hope that was a fair price, but man it sure sounds a lot better than $90 a pop plus shipping for a new one.  Even adding in the cost of an SER2, it still saved me about $160.  My plan is to use an SER2 and set up an LCS system with wifi.  So would these ASC's technically wear out over time?  I just hope the ones I ordered last for a long time.

These controllers have multiple uses. The ASC3000's are rated, I believe at 15 amps.  Later issue Lionel products were rated at 20 amps. I never had a problem with my ASC's, which I used for switch motor control, (Through and Out), the circuits were fused at 5 amps or less.  I did have problems with early issue BPC's, Block Power Controllers.  The IC Control BPC's were rated at 15 amps and the TPC, (Track Power Controller), I was using had a 20 amp thermal circuit cut-out. The BPC, I used for track circuit control, burn traces on the back of the BPC.  I later added track circuit fusing at no more than 7.5 amps per track circuit. Upper left in first picture.

Note the board repair.
