Atlas has been getting out a few new models each month[mostly repainted reruns] anything new in the foreseeable future at least a year or more away will probably be in the Tman line. Until the China mfg situation stablizes for Atlas I would not expect any thing more [a new Masterline diesel is highly unlikely] bear in mind no matter what models they bring in if they sell out they are making there business plan.

Production to demand [reservation system] has reduced the aftermarket substantionaly, it is also the reason you do not see that many new paint schemes. There is enough demand for the more common rd names with new road numbers and maybe one or two new paint schemes in the run. If you don't get it when its first released you will probably not find it, dealers do not want a lot of inventory sitting around too long.

I thought they would release more often?

I would like to get a dummy at least. I would have to convert a powered unit to DCS to run it. I don't see much around, or not often. Atlas releases seem all over the map sometimes. That Christmas Coke truck leaves me thinking that sometimes they sell whatever deal they can. I thought it would look more realistic?

Their engines look and run great. I'm happy overall with their track. Sometimes, I think I can only get stuff used as I can't find it when I look for it. Maybe I should preorder then? I really missed out when I look at their high cube 60ft box cars. I thought they looked great. I guess you're right, Hibar. It seems to me that their 2 rail sales go more directly to customer's orders than dealers? I mean, there's just not that much around after a release, just the extras and leftovers.

I personally think it's a case where Atlas O needs to take a look in the mirror and find out who their customers really are today and what they like because they are obviously gun shy to produce enough new product in new roadnames, etc.

Certainly it's a balance as you don't want too much sitting around, but you also have to take some risk to grow the business.

I would be an atlas engine slut if they could be run with dcs... I don't mind the reduced output as long as they keep up the standards they are known for, they never release anything below excellent.

With DCS you've painted yourself into a one vendor monopoly.  AtlasO, Weaver, and Sunset can't offer DCS products as MTH won't license to competitors. Several years ago we had an interesting exchange of views on DCS, TMCC, and DCC for 2 rail O.  From a purely technical approach DCS  probably has the best CC approach - but what good is that if you are tied to one vendors ready to run locomotives which from a prototype modeling  perspective are at times sub-par.  Even worse - you can't purchase a DCS PS3 decoder to install in the interesting universe of legacy O locomotives we find on eBay and at O scale meets - until MTH decides it is in their interest to offer them to us.

Just opinion from a very satisfied DCC operator.

Ed, I don't wish to argue as I look up to you. I would like to offer another opinion. I have converted many other locos now to DCS. The fact that they haven't come out with the newer PS3 kits yet has not stopped me. I'm sure that someone with a DCC system needs them more than I do. If you're talking about just the ability to run with their control system, then the ability is already there.

Let's face it, most users will pick a control system, and usually have a favorite control type board they will install as well. I liked NCE's decoders and digitrax. When sound got better, I preferred to just buy QSI equipped locos. Way easier than re-inventing the wheel. Don't you have a favorite?

Atlas has just put up on the web site the Jan arrivals including the Tman 62' bulkhead flat car ,interesting they still do not post an actual picture of the finished model[don't know if this is a good sign or not] they will probably be on display at the Big "E" in Springfield later this month. If anyone gets theres post some pics.
