I need to get inside my D&H 3 rail Atlas O C-628 to make a repair. Any tips on shell removal please????

If you have the instruction manual, it should tell you how to remove the shell. There are 6 screws that hold the body on, the 2 front ones will require you to remove the side frames on the front truck to access them. The 2 screws at the rear can be removed without taking off the side frames, just turn the truck such so that you can see the screws between the inside of the side frame and the truck block.
Once all the screws are removed, carefully put the engine right side up and pull out the hand rails from the cab. They are a bit long, so might need quite a bit of force to pull them completely out of the holes on the cab.
After all that, the shell should slide off fairly easily. Note the shell is the short hood, cab, and long hood. The walkways are part of the frame.
Hoping to be able to solve the puzzle of access without breaking anything.....

An added note of caution- put some blue painters tape on the sides of the cab before lifting the shell off. Don't want to scratch the paint with the handrail.
I just had to remove mine. I didn't have to remove the sideframes. There are 4 screws at the corners. There are 4 more screws before and after the tank. Two hold the shell and the other two are for a bracket that doesn't need to come out; not a problem if you remove them, though, just put them back when shell is off. Shell came off easily after removing all the screws. I'd take a picture, but I had to ship mine back due to a bad board.
