Can a 2 rail DC trainman diesel run together with a 2 rail DC/ Gold trainman ? Only difference appears to be the Lok sound feature on the "Gold" diesel, no DCC.
The gold models have DCC. Loksound is a DCC decoder. Mechanically the models are the same (gear ratios etc…) but I would assume even on straight DC the decoder is going to make the gold one react a little differently.
i could try if if you really wanna know. I have a C40-8w of each flavor somewhere in the basement.
In the original listing on these engines Atlas does not mention DCC on the gold model only ESU LokSound and operating ditch lights but it must have DCC. I have a pair of the Trainman C40-8w 2 rail DC models and they have operating ditch lights, I do have a Masterline SD 40 with DCC and that is not compatible with my straight DC model [ on regular power packs it takes about 7 volts to start moving ] at some point in their production of O scale Masterline diesels Atlas stopped offering a basic DC model and only the sound /DCC model was offered in the 2 rail versions. My SD-40 came from the first run where the Basic 2 rail DC model was only offered in the Trainman line.
