Hello, Gunrunnerjohn.  I was checking to see if you ever tested the dwarf signal and board you purchased on Ebay with an insulated rail.  Post was from 2013.  See below.

I use a matching controller I also bought on eBay, RR Signal Logic Board.  Buying five of these comes to a total of $60, so that's $12 a board.  Hard to build your logic for less than that.  They work with IR sensors or the magnetic reed switch.  I'm guessing with an independent supply, they'll also work with an isolated rail.  I'm about to find out about the isolated rail triggering, I'm going to try that with this board.

For those not familiar with the WeHonest product in question:

I don't have one but as GRJ says, the issue will be to understand the common ground issue between what the board "thinks" is ground relative to the outer-rail.  You would need to make some measurements on the board and/or take some really good close-up photos of both sides of the board to get advice on where to apply the isolated-rail trigger in lieu of the reed-switch.  This is made a lot simpler if the power to the logic board comes from an isolated/independent power supply as GRJ noted in his original post.

Or, if a fan of Rube Goldberg machines, I can imagine a scheme where the isolated-rail trigger powers an electro-magnet which then triggers the magnetic reed-switch.

Thanks.  I have a lot of wiring for my 24' x 12' layout and have done some good stuff, but I've yet to tackle signals.  Finally trying to get my feet wet.  I know I will be fine  with Lionel Dwarfs 6-12883/MTH 30-11011s. I want to use them more as switch signals for 9 of my switches and ditch the hot incandescent bulbs, then use them as dwarfs elsewhere.  My o-72 switches have indication at the turnout, so I am good there.  As far as my track I need to figure out if the wehonest signals will work for me.  I run A/C 18v track power, so would need to switch it to DC with a rectifier and lower the voltage.  I see a lot on diodes as well.  I read a lot of forums and I see your comments all of the time.  Very helpful!
