I have had a 18462 command control version of the 44 Army locomotive since it was released years ago. Kids visiting my layout love to fire the four missiles using the cab 2 and sound car that mates up with this engine. This engine still runs and all the command control features work ok. But the missiles no longer fire other than manually. I did open it up and determined that the coil that activates the rocket firing works ok. by itself. Anyone out there ever have this happen? Phil

Yes, had this happen and the answer is embarrassing- you may have hit the switch at the back and that gave me these exact symptoms.
Yes, I went through, checked everything else mechanically first- rather than trying the simple thing.
Because the switch is recessed and not often used, you may not even have been aware of it.

This switch at the back!!!!
If not in command- then command cannot fire the missiles!!!

Again, I bumped mine somehow maybe the rear truck from putting on and off the track and flipped that switch to conventional- and then could not fire the missiles from command.
The switch is mostly hidden- only if you know to look for it- then you see it.
Mr Barry: Your solution worked!! I was aware of that slide switch and thought I had it set properly, but obviously had it the wrong way. So kids this afternoon can shoot of the rockets again and enjoy the sounds! Thanks again, and enjoy the new year. Phil
