I bought the Polar Express Gateman, along with the activator pack, for my grandson. Two questions:
1). As it’s running off the activator pack (ie track power) it’s getting 18 volts. However, on page 9 of the instructions, if connecting to a transformer and using the remote control box, it says connect to the TRACK screws and apply 12-14 volts (AC I assume). So my question, is it designed for 18 volts (track power activator pack with LionChief) or 12-14 volts via direct connection to a transformer like a CW-80?
2). The Gateman comes in and out as a train passes, but sometimes my grandson stops the train in front of the house. The Gateman pops out, but doesn’t remain out and instead after a few seconds goes back in. After moving the train and running it by the Gateman again, the Gateman doesn’t seem to work properly again unless we power down the track and restart. Is this normal? I’m guessing it’s not designed to have a train stop and keep the door open for any period beyond a few seconds. Is this designed this way on purpose to avoid burning out the solenoid?
Any insight is much appreciated.
