Probably because it did not comply with the OGR policy on avatars, i.e. a RECOGNIZABLE photo of your face., and was subsequently deleted by the moderators.
That could be it, but there seems to have been a couple of server issues in the last couple of days that may have caused this.
Upload another image of yourself and let's see what happens. When you do that, be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on the blue "UPDATE PROFILE" button.
