Hello All,

I recently ordered a backdrop for my layout from Backdrop Warehouse. They do not offer much advise regarding installing the backdrop. I'm wondering if some of you have advise to share concerning installing backdrops. I have already painted and placed a 1/8th Masonite sheet over the area to be covered as I have textured walls, I also rounded the corners.

My main question is what type of adhesive to use. I have looked at rubber cement but it seems that you really need to know what you are doing because it sets up fast and is unforgiving. I have also heard that a strong industrial Velcro can be used and is easy to work with and you can take it down if you move (which we may need to).

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

Glad you found it useful, John. That website is so visually busy, I'm surprised anyone can find anything. It gives me a headache. Whoever designed that thing obviously never saw a font, box, or boarder he didn't like and decided to use them all.

Hey guy's,

Very excited about the carpet tape idea, could save a lot of hassle and time!

Mr. laidoffsick (sorry, I don't know your real name) the pictures you sent me showing me what you did to install your backdrop shows the EXACT scene I have purchased. The Colorado Continental Divide taken from the town of Leadville Colorado where my grandmother was born and raised! That is why I'm a D&RG guy!

One another question, my backdrop will be 15 feet X 42 inches, is it necessary to paint and tape the Masonite since the backdrop will just hang from the top edges and the picture materal is not suppose to be see through.

Also, the laser level idea was brilliant as my home is very old and I can never trust if anything is level or square.

Thanks again,

JohnE

It is NOT necessary to paint or tape the masonite. We did it because at the time, we were not sure how we were going to hang the back drops. We thought rubber cement or wall paper glue so we wanted the surface smooth and flat. A lot of wasted time and effort after doing the carpet tape method.
