I've a Bascule I'd like to incorporate into my next layout and would surely welcome some experienced thoughts and maybe even a pic or two. Are these fairly reliable or something that is better seen than actually used?.....

Hello Earnie:
I have (and use) a Post War sample of this bridge passed on from my father.
My experience is that it is one of the better looking bridges out of the box but can be painted to look more realistic if you wish.
Operation, properly hooked up, it operates great and your unknowing guests will get a kick out of it if you let the trains do their thing by stopping short of the bridge when in the up position.
As for location, I have spanning a small creek just above "water" level. The thought was that this bridge spans this creek, but will rise to allow water traffic pass.
I don't have any pictures at the moment, but will try to post over the weekend unless someone else posts first.
Hope this helps,
Charlie
Thank you Charlie...love to see the pics!
Earnie.........may I suggest a book?
Dennis Brennan's book: Realistic Railroading for Model Trains, a High Rail Guide.....Dennis is an OGR Forum member and has a company that sells excellent ballast and O scale fences. His book goes through building a High Rail layout start to finish. It includes a Postwar bascule bridge which he modifies a bit.......a really good book All around.
