I've had Legacy for approx 2 months and the overwhelming majority of times I fire it up, it says "base not found" with a "retry" option. I press retry and it doesn't find it. But I can still operate it so no functional issues as far as I can tell. The remote is typically sitting in the cradle when this happens. Perused the Legacy manual but didn't see this topic addressed anywhere? Peter

Typically this happens when the base is off or when the remote is turned on before the base has a chance to boot up all the way. It also will do this if you were connected to a different base and returning to yours for the first time.
Not sure how it would operate correctly if it cannot "find" and connect to the base.
If none of these are the case, then something is amiss.
Hi MartyE - the unit has never left my basement and I don't typically turn on the remote immediately after powering up the system. Usually a few seconds later. I'm not home now but when I get there I will post the exact steps and messages. I'm new to Legacy (building the layout more than enjoying the trains at this point) and you've helped me out before so I think it's something easily solved - just by someone who has more experience with it than I. Peter
I've personally never seen this unless it's one of the situations Marty describes. If I get too quick on the remote power, I get it, and I'm sure when I use the remote I had up at NJ-HR, I'll have to scan again as they're on a different channel than I am.
Yea almost sounds like a channel thing. Could the base be on a different channel than the remote?
A couple of years ago I was having consant base not found messages, and when I went searching on the forum for a possible solution, someone (I can't remember who now), suggested changing the channel from the default of 1 to something else. I changed it to 9 and haven't had a problem since. Might help.
Ok, first screen says "base not found". Can click on either "scan" or "retry". I click on "retry" and next screen says: (on top line) "channel 1" (on second line) "unnamed" (on third line) it gives you the choice to click on either "scan" or ok". I click on "ok" and no problem using legacy. If I click on scan on either the first or second screen, it says "scanning" and scans through channels 1-9 and then comes back to the original error screen ("base not found" or "channel 1" "unnamed" screen).

Your base is on channel 1 and doesn't have a name. You can name in by getting into the CTC menus, scroll to the option to name your base.

I looked through the User Manual and didn't see how to do this. By the way, name it? Like what - Ralph or something?
You can name it anything you like. Press the red CTC button and scroll through the menus, you'll find the option.
Thanks. Not knocking Legacy, as I like it very much, but it isn't nearly as intuitive to me as DCS. Or maybe it's just a matter of having gotten used to DCS before Legacy. Either way, thanks guys.

I had TMCC and then Legacy before DCS, and I find the Legacy more intuitive. It really is just what you're more accustomed to.
