I run bcrs in my proto 1 locos. Just picked up a berkshire thats proto 1 and the battery wont hold a charge. LHS has bcrs but he reccomends the new battery for proto 1 instead of a bcr. He is an mth repair center. Any suggestions?

Bottom line, if you are looking to hold onto this loco for over a year, get the BCR. No worries, NO leaky batteries in storage, etc.
I dont plan to get rid of any of my trains....lol
Well you now know the answer to your question. Get it and no worries!
I'm going on about 7 years with a BCR in the MTH Burlington Zephyr. Never a problem.
It just puzzled me that he reccomended against it. I bought one anyway and just installed it. I run them in my other ps1 locos without issue.
I've never had a problem with a BCR in any MTH engine! Other than being a little oversize for the plastic holders. I just break off the plastic tab at the top with pliers and use a piece of 2 sided tape to secure the BCR in the holder. The BCR will probably never have to come out.
BCR
Where do you get a bcr? Are their different types? I have a railking mowhawk with a nine volt type battery from mth . Been sitting for years and I am getting the engine fixed so I might as well install the bcr while I am at it. Thanks for the help guys!
BCR is the way to go, Both my diesel have them for years now with no problems.
My vote goes to modeltrainstuff.com kleins is an awesome, smalltown train shop that has kept up with the times and has excellent prices and customer service.
