My experience - which is limited to attending and buying, not displaying a layout or setting up a table and selling - is that shows vary from year to year, sometimes having good participation, sometimes not.  I saw some slackening during the depression but frankly I think weather and "random luck" play a bigger part.  If it's a poor show I just leave, if not, well, I stay -sometimes quite a while!
