I am sure Kadees will work. Body mount will require larger curves than what that engine is rated for. Truck mount will pretty much allow running on the same curves. If you are Ok with oversize couplers G scale Kadees are more forgiving on uneven track.

My F3s with truck mounted Kadees will negotiate a 042 S curve.

I’m not familiar with this engine. I looked at the parts breakdown on Lionel’s site. A shorter coupler doesn’t look like an option. You could get some aluminum or brass stock the width of the stock coupler mount. Use the stock bracket as a guide to drill out the 2 holes. Then mount the Kadee to the bracket. The do offer a shorter coupler box than the standard 805. This would still give a coupler that moves with the truck. As long as these 2 are always coupled together. I wouldn’t be concerned with getting the coupler at the proper height.

I did this years ago to a MTH DL109. Looks much better now.

Lionel E units are usually coupled fairly.close coupled unlike how F units had up to the latest releases much larger gaps, Check the Lionel parts website for your E6 note the length of the rear non operating coupler. Then check their E7# and E8s if they are shorter order two. They should fit but note the mounting on your and make sure they match on the E7, E8 ones. Good luck.
