While walking through my local Walmart the other day my Mom spotted a Grinch battery powered train set. She is a huge fan of the Grinch. My mom like it she thought it was cute. I looked at over l knew l could make one better. Using some mpc cars l had in a project box l have started putting something together. I have been thinking of looking for a post war scout locomotive to pull this train. I know the scout locomotives dont pull much but this set only has three cars. Not sure which one of the scout locomotive would be best to look to get?

Better than a Scout, but the exact same size, and most of the time around the same price point, would be a 2034 2-4-2 steam locomotive,….and least it has a traditional mechanical e-unit, and far more service friendly than a scout could ever hope to be,…..usually can be had for small money ……

I will definitely look for one of the 2034's
3rd! I have the 2034. Very reliable and very peppy!
Not to go against the grain, but I have a 55+ year old 1130. It runs fast (by itself). Admittedly I've never pulled a big consist with it, so I don't know its pulling power. It doesn't have magnatraction.
From https://ogrforum.com/...nsas-train-show-2021 :
I picked up this 233 more for the working whistle tender than anything else. As a gag, I coupled it to the large, heavy Frisco consist, figuring it would sit there and spin its wheels.
Much to both my and the seller's surprise...
Behold the power of Magnatraction!
