I always use Aervoe engine enamel. It comes in lots of colors and the universal silver is great. It covers well and dries quickly and has built in primer. Get the can warm by running it under a hot water faucet and paint trains in the bright sunshine. Works great, dries fast and holds up very well.

What paints (rattle can) and colors have you used to paint trucks, couplers, frames etc. when customizing a locomotive or other rolling stock?

Photo's of your work would be a plus!

Many Thanks,

Rick.

For trucks and frames I'd just use Grimy Black. For couplers - also rods and valve gear on steam locomotives - I just got something called Neolube that I'm going to use for the first time this weekend. It's not actually a paint, it's a dry lube that's brushed on. It's dark gray/graphite color when it dries.

Cheers,

Ken

Rattle can?  In the past I have used Krylon.  They have changed several things lately, including nozzle and propellant, that makes them unsuitable for model work.  My last can of semi- gloss black had to be recaptured and shot out of an airbrush for even remotely satisfactory results.

bypass that step and just get Floquil loco black and a Paasche Model H.
