This is an engine that came in a factory sealed, unopened box, obviously never run. It is PS2 2.4 volts. I asked the group for start up help. Today, as was recommended, I replaced the NiMH green battery with a BCR2. I greased the worm gear stuff as suggested to avoid what happened to my O Gauge Blue Comey 263 that stripped its gears. I also oiled axles and bearings. I put a TVS on my ZW. I am using TMCC powermaster control in conventional mode. As a test, before I put it on the track, I applied power and the lights in the matching passenger cars came on. The lighted lockon also lit up and got brighter as I gave it more power.
So I put the beast on the track, gave it a bit over 10 volts as suggested in the BCR package, and nothing is happening. No lights on the engine or the passenger cars. The light MTH lockon does not light like it did with the passenger cars only on the track. The green light on the powermaster flashes and the transformer gives off a different hum. I verified that all wheels are on the track. I removed the engine and the lockon lit up and lights came on in the passenger cars again. I did try one time with the TVS removed, but only got the same no go response.
I assume there is something happening with the engine but I'm hesitant to keep trying in fear of breaking something. I am hoping that some of you have some good suggestions.
