On January 18th at the NJ High Railers Club during the annual O Gauge Forum Meet there sitting on their elevated (el) tracks was a six car set (2 sets of 3 cars each) of the Tri-Plex cars custom made by one of the members of the club. Having ridden the real cars in the 50s and 60s and founding them to be the interesting subway/ el cars to operate in New York City in my lifetime I would very much like to see MTH come out with them as they have done many of the New York City subway and el cars.

After that any of the current operating subway car models would also be welcomed such as the R-143s, R-160s and the next to appear R-180s on the B division and R-188s on the A division's #7 Flushing Line.

Opinions please.

I hear you Ed but I don’t anticipate any new tooling in O from MTH.

I’ve been waiting for the old SIRT-BMT cars for well over 5 years now.

All signs in the last two years have indicated an ending to a once robust train market.

Not many will pay over 35 a car.

C. Ro is blowing out 50’ MTH PS-1’s at 35 ea. couldn’t sell them at 52 ea.

Atlas O has a large number of cancellations listed as well. The majority will not pay 70 for a stock Atlas boxcar either.

Increased overseas labor, shipping and quality issues also play a part not to mention all the dealer closings.

So we can all wish, but it’s going to be a rough road ahead for the O scale model train marketers and associated companies.

Thanks  for the comment Mikael.  Carl  Here . My D types also run well using magic carpet drives and  have full interior details and lights. I did make a scratch built sirt car. Infact i made two of them. I am planning to make a third and it will be in  plastic with again  full interior and hopefully will come good enough for a project in a magazine.   Oscalecarl.  PS youtube search = oscalecarl gets   you all a view of subway, lirr doubledeckers and  more. enjoy

Ed,

Sorry to disappoint you, but the 3 surviving D-Type units haven't been at Coney Island for quite some time. 2 are in storage at a yard I rather not disclose, and the 3rd is in the Transit Museum on display.

FYI, the BMT ABs are at Coney Island, outside. They were being restored up to a few years ago, but they got thrown out of the shops for reasons I am not privy to.

O scale reality finally setting in …

Received a new email notice from Charles Ro today. Another price blow out on more cars they can’t sell.

Prices especially on Atlas O are starting to come back down to earth!

I heard that dealers are reluctant to purchase new product going forward due to being over priced by the suppliers.

Thanks for the update on the D-Types. I will phone Bill Wall and get the update of the cars. I will at the Transit Museum next month with a group from Westchester County.

Two of the D types are at Pitkin yard way in the back under the apartments.  They have been there since the 100 anniversary
