Happy Boxcar Sunday! For this week a Weaver CB&Q in gold. To commemorate winning the Railway Progress Institute's Golden Freight Car award for 1966, the Burlington painted one day's output (eight cars) of overhauled XM-32 box cars gold with black lettering in December 1966 at the Burlington's freight car shop in Havelock, Nebraska. The award was for the most effective promotion of railroad freight traffic in America.

Just wondering Dave, do you have all 8?
You all have great looking box cars! I wish mine were that nice, most of mine have something broken here or there! But then again when I was starting out that is all I could afford!

Good morning, Mike. I had 4 at one time and could not find any in my mess of a storage room. I bought this one last week to try and make the others reappear LOL.

@walt rapp - Well Walt, I have only been in Pittsburgh twice (not counting changing planes at the airport) but I am proud to say that I have ridden on the DUQESNE incline. Had a friend who lived just a ways off the upper station stop.
Following @tnkMarx here are a couple of more 3/16" Scale but 0 gauge boxcars from Marx. First the #3200 NY,NH,&H which has the "new" date of 1-41 actually lithographed on the car (however its possible it was not actually available until after the war). I love the script logo on the left side of the main door.
The second car is the UP #9100 which has a "new" date of 9-41 lithographed on the car, and again it is likely that this was mostly available in the immediate post war era.
These scale freight cars were offered by Marx until about 1957 when they disappeared from the line. .
Best wishes and Happy Holidays
Don

In Regards to my post of 12/15 as to whether or not those Marx "scale" boxcars were available in the pre-war period, the enclosed catalog cut from the 1942 Spiegal catalog appears to say"No". Clearly the catalog illustrates a Marx freight pulled by the 99 loco and containing 2 scale gondolas, a scale cattle car, and a scale caboose but no box cars. So it looks like the box cars were produced in the early post war period.

Hi Russ, I don't have a clue who made the boxcar. It's all metal and has MTH trucks on it. I purchased it simply because I liked it.
Thanks for the reply. That's one neat car, and unusual.

Hi guys great looking cars! If I didn't have all mine still boxed up I would try and find something new I haven't posted already!
Hey @Don McErlean don't shoot me, but I had a chance to buy a tin plate box car at a pawn shop for $12 and I was really thinking about it just to say I had one! But the CEO talked me out of it!@
@mike g.- OH NO!! Now there was an opportunity that won't come again soon! And one boxcar takes up so little space. I expect your wife is smarter than you might think...one car leads to all sorts of things, see below.
Best Wishes and Happy Holidays to BOTH you and your wife!

@pennsyfan - Congratulations to your grandson and to you and your whole family, you don't make that high achievement alone! Super job.
Well here is one for all you folks with a storage problem, a box car that converts into a passenger coach. This combination is from HWN (Heinrich Wimmer, Nuremburg) from about the 1950's or so. That Santa Fe box car clips into the 4 wheel frame for stability but it isn't the only thing that clips in.
Should you want to change from a freight train to a passenger train you can switch bodies and lo and behold you have a passenger coach. Even neater, it you leave both bodies off...the top of the 4 wheel frame remaining is lithographed with an excellent 3 d representation of a pile of logs...so you have a log car! WOW - 3 cars in 1.
Best Wishes, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year

@Don McErlean You have a great selection of pre- and post-war trains. Especially ones like this unique set that is in excellent condition. I think you and my brother would have gotten along great.

Thanks Paul, yes I influenced, encouraged, cajoled, and at times kicked *** (text wise); to keep him moving. Because at 18 they age out and it’s over. He had many distractions; after school rifle club, marching band, orchestra, girl friend. Besides his academic courses he goes to VOTECH 1/2, days a week for welding, Which he is acing. But he manned up and got it done.
Here is one of my new Lionel WWII Poster boxcars. I'm assuming (a word I hate) that BLT on this boxcar stands for when it was Built and not Bacon Lettice and Tomato, would they have put WWII posters on a car for war support after the war had ended, or did Lionel get that wrong or am I wrong for assuming that BLT stands for when it was built? Inquiring minds need to know.

True Pittsburghers will surely know this one. For those unfamiliar: for decades Pittsburghers would say "Meet me under that Kaufmann's clock".

Well, that is a PS-1 boxcar. These were first built in 1947.
@CAPPilot- Ron thanks for the compliment. Don
@trumpettrain - Patrick that is a beautiful box car. I wonder if you know, in Texas there is a legend that the Northern Cardinal (or Redbird as we call it here) is a messenger from God and when he appears in your garden, it announces the presence of an Angel nearby. Its a wonderful story and I am always reminded of it when I see a Cardinal in the garden.
Best Wishes, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year
