when I press the # 1 button the entire button gets the blue black color of the numbers but none of the other ones do. Whats up?

Try again, they are selectively highlighted.

When you press the ENG key, then hit numbers, up to two numbers will be highlighted. For instance, if I select engine 12, and press ENG, 1, 2, both 1 and 2 are highlighted. If I then press 3, then 2 and 3 are highlighted, as I've typed in more numbers than engines are addressed by, so it takes the last two.
