I have a 990 base and two CAB-2 handhelds - all are Version 1.6 and work well except for two odd behaviors. My start up sequence is to power up the base, then the powerhouse 180, then the CAB-2. Sometimes when I power up the CAB-2, it starts up the last engine I had been running (about 30% of the time). The other odd behavior is that when I close the throttle all the way it reverses the locomotive direction (about 10% of the time). This happens with either CAB-2, and with any of the 5 Legacy locomotives I own.

Thinking that perhaps there was some setting in the CAB-2 I had missed, I contacted Lionel tech support, but they said they haven't heard of this problem before.

Has anyone else seen this and (hopefully) found a way to correct it?

Actually nothing odd here. When you turn on the remote it should go to the last locomotive that was being operated but sometimes when you let go for the CTC button it can see another press and instead it starts at the CTC screen

what you have described is what I think was call the velocity throttle or something like that, I’d have to go back through the manual but after the locomotive is stopped continuing to turn the throttle in the counter clockwise direction will change its direction

Thank you both. So the CTC button debounce timer might be too short, and the velocity throttle setting might be causing the inadvertent reverse. I can disable velocity and see if that helps; the debounce timer will have to wait for V1.7 of the CAB-2 firmware. Funny enough - Digitrax had the same problem with the direction keep on their throttle having debounce problems causing false indications.

Maybe it's me, but your start-up sequence sounds wrong.

I have always understood that the Legacy system (both base and Cab-2) are supposed to be turned on first, before track power is applied.

The reason being that if track power is turned on before the base and Cab-2 and there is an engine already on the track that does not see a Legacy signal before it receives track power, it thinks it is supposed to run in conventional mode and may not respond to commands from the remote.
