Cab2 getting hot?

Just shut the base off and use regular alkaline batteries. The base charger is not that good although you could send it back to Lionel. I myself use the alkaline batteries and have from the beginning. 

It's the way it works, I charge them in the #993 charging base, they don't get hot in that one.

I believe its the normal warming of the base coupled with warming of the batteries when charging. I charge my batteries in an external charger for other AA's. 

Hi Sam mine gets pretty hot also like John and Rick said it's normal

Not desirable, but unfortunately normal.

I purchased Legacy three months after it hit the streets. I use it everyday and I am still using the original batteries that came with it. Use it or loose it.

Has anyone tried using rechargeable energizer or lithium batteries?

Timely question Paul. I just picked up a Legacy Unit from a forum member. I noticed the batteries in the handheld were not coming up to full charge so I put in some NiMH batteries that came with the Apple computer charger (AA batteries for mice and keyboard).

Worked like a champ and showed full charged. Anyone interested, the Apple charger comes with 6 AA NiMH batteries for about 30 bucks.

Mine get very hot also. Figured the heat long term would not be a good thing. Turned mine off and went to standard recharger as others did.  

Many have used lithiums with good results. I used some Eneloops rechargeable s but was told by Lionel not to I have dome green ones from radio shack with good results

I discarded the rechargeable batteries; turned off the switch on the bottom of the base; placed a bit of plastic tape over the contacts where the remote sits; and just use regular alkaline batteries.  No problems.
