While researching RCS and tortoise machines, I wondered if there was a way to mount the 022 mechanism under the table. Has anyone tried this approach; and was it worth the effort? And, most importantly, how was it accomplished?

The quick answer is NO. The switch is all one part.
Okay, thank you. I guess that means ordering some items from RCS.
The quick answer is YES. The switch machine operates perfectly apart from the rest of the switch and can be operated under the table with wire & bellcranks and/or rod/pivot actuation through the layout surface with connection to the switch points. It's been a long time since I've seen this done.
My "quick answer" is why would you want to? I believe Rob is correct, it's technically possible to do it, but it's going to be a mechanical marvel, and it would be a TON easier to adapt something like a Tortoise switch machine to the O22 switch than trying to use the O22 mechanism. In addition, the Tortoise machine will be far more reliable!
Thank you Rob and GRJ. As I pondered it further, my thoughts were going in the same direction. I have about 10 but will need at least twice that amount. Not being mechanically inclined is also a detriment. But, how would the Tortoise be connected?
