Can a Lionel three truck shay run on 048 curves.? The specs say o54.

I have the WM 3 truck shay and it will run on my O48 loop. I do, however, keep the gears to the outside.

That's the issue........
The gear side on the inside of a curve O54.....outside O48.....but I have seen the slip joint between the loco and 'tender' come apart on small radius curve.
It's the issue that keep MTH from making a RK Shay.....or that is what Mike told me!
