I have two MTH WIU and 1 LCS wifi.    I did use them on my home network.  However, there is a lot of traffic on the house network and the response time from the basement did delay operations on the layout.   The mobile devices would experience more issues in connecting, not finding a TIU/ LCS, or dropping the connection.  I would prefer to have them all their own network.  Only the devices operating trains would connect to them.

Currently, 1 MTH WIFI is its own network and the 2nd WIU connects to it.   The LCS wifi is running on its own network.   The response times using the individual networks are much better and I do not have the issues I listed above.   Has anyone tried connecting the LCS to the MTH WIFI?   Is this recommended?   This could avoid me setting up a 2nd router just for the layout with no network connection to the rest of the house network.   If it is not possible, I will set up a  router just for the trains.

I ran a train party last week and used the Lionel and MTH app on my home network.   I did it solely using the iOS iPhone / iPad. B.   I used it for both apps.    When switches between apps, sometimes the connection to the other is dropped.   If I switched from Lionel to MTH and back to Lionel, I would have to reconnect the LCS.  Fortunately, once that is done, I would have control back and speed setting back where I left them.  Usually switching to MTH was ok, but sometimes I had to retread the TIU (s).   Then I can start running them.   Sometimes I would get no TIU found, or only can find the engines on TIU1 vs. TIU2.   This maybe an issue of running 2 WIU until the full version is out this spring.   You can also experience this if you switch between other apps as well.

For the iPad, I usually just ran the LCS app for yards.   I rarely, switched it to the MTH app unless my iPhone was unable to read the engine after switching off.   I used the iPhone's to run the trains for both of us.   This weekend, I set up MTH WIU as one network and run WIU 2 on it.    I did not experience the issue of loosing connection, since the iPhone was only in the MTH network.    I will try adding the LCS wifi to the MTH one and let you know how it works.

Scott,

I did try adding the LCS to the MTH NETWORK.  It did add, but I could not read it on all my devices.  Not sure why 1 device could find the LCS but the others could not.   Running the MTH WIU were not an issue.  However, I decided I wanted to get this back on my home network.  I used a newer router and added all of them to it.  Now I can run the MTH wiu1, wiu2, LCS, or control my train lights on my devices without switching off my home network.

If you do not want to be on the home network and do not need LCS, using the adding multiple WIU to the MTH network works very well.
