Hello all ....thank you for your kind words ...yes C&F is very simple..."keep it simple ........" ...so may not look like much  but they run ......the construction of some of the pieces is delicate..to say the least ...how they survive 100 + years  is anyone's guess ....  this trolley recently surfaced in an auction ...

Fascinating stuff - as Fatman said above; I like the complex simplicity. What's the C&F 2-rail insulated axle arrangement? Is that a wooden sleeve fastened around a split metal axle?

Yes  a wood / fiber  center section of the axle ...  ..C&F ruled the rails when everything was run on batteries ...so everything was very light ... to help with battery life ...  when transformers made a big smash 1911 /2 ...C&F was doing the slow fade ... as Lionel happily took the lead .
