Catalogs...What's a Guy to Do?

Get the DVD version, if available. I know Lionel paper is available.

My point is that I no longer want the paper versions of any of these catalogs that I have.  I feel "guilty" for just trashing (recycling) these booklets that everyone can't live without receiving each year...but, ultimately just pile up around the house.

Should I just recycle them all?  What a waste.

 If your not comfortable recycling them. Why not just put them up for free for the price of shipping on the for sale forum. I'm sure someone might be interested.

Several times lately I have been scrambling through disorganized catalogue piles to look at something I heard of or to look for something I HOPE they made...and that includes most makers back to K-Line...for instance, there were comments on here about K-Line aluminum passenger cars, and I wondered where could I go to find out "What K-Line alum. car roadname series had RPO's, in the long version"?  or a subset of that, "What alum. car roadnames did K-Line make?"

If you sell at train shows, you can mark them as "free" and let people take whichever ones they want. I know what you mean about tossing them, but sometimes you have to do it anyway. Right now, I have a stack of catalogs dating back to 1980. I'm planning on putting them out for recycling next week.

You would be surprised at how much it would cost just to mail one of those catalogs. Recycling them is the only answer if you can't give them away locally.

I pass along my extra's to our grand kids who are 3 & 6 years old. They get a kick out looking at all of the trains!! Eventually then end up getting torn up or colored on, but they have a good time with them!!

I collect the catalogs, storing them in a file box that I keep in the closet, and even purchased a bunch of older catalogs dating back to 1950 on eBay.  One man's trash is another man's treasure.  Send them to me if you have no other takers, and I will reimburse you for the shipping expense.

I've reached the point where I download the PDF versions. The few hard copies I have lying around usually end up being given to visitors at the club interested in throwing away money -- I mean investing in model trains.

 I keep mine. They make great reference material. I even have a lot of my old HO mags. I know they'll have to go someday. I put them into plastic bins down stairs.

 When the grandkids used to come over, they loved looking at them. It kind of gives them special meaning to me.

An old story, as anyone with Playboy or National Geographic (etc.) collections can tell you. Not such a big deal anymore with everything on line. Streamline the "stuff" and do recycling. It'll happen eventually anyway.

I just threw away about 200 catalogs from all the mfgs. Nobody wanted them. I now keep them for a few years then trash them.
