After watching Rocky Mountaineer's thread about Atlas CZ Obs car deliveries all through the day, at the end of this day I decided to look at "the Bay" to see if any of the cars were being offered. It turns out that a brick and mortar retailer with a web presence had several for sale. Hold that thought...
As a child, one of my grandmothers lived in Gainesville, TX very close to the GC&SF depot. When visiting her, my cousin and I would walk to the depot to watch the Amtrak Texas Chief arrive. It was a very interesting train with former El Cap equipment and often a dome obs carrying the markers. One particular day, the train was featuring ex-CB&Q (CZ) Silver Penthouse...it was the coolest passenger car we had ever seen in our lives. We walked back to grandma's afterward with our feet barely touching the ground. Now, back to tonight...
So, there it was; Silver Penthouse in 3R.
Did I buy it?
Oh, heck yes.
If this turns out to be the only CZ car I ever buy, I had to have this one.
