I have no experience with these repairs at all. So please straighten me out with my incorrect terminology and other errors. I have several well-worn engines that might need new center rail power pickup rollers. These seem to be on long rivets hat serve as the axles for the rollers. The thing holding the roller is sprung to maintain pressure on the rail.

If I replace these, do I just replace the roller and use a new rivet? Or should I replace the whole sprung assembly?

Is there a good thread on this repair on the forum?

Any help appreciated.

Here's a quick look at some common postwar replacement rollers.  As John mentioned, you do need special tools to swap out the rivets;  however, I've had success with just soldering the rivets in place.  Alternately, you can try fitting the TCL-44 type rollers with built in pegs; you may need to drill the pickup leg holes out a bit to get the pegs to fit.

All of these may be found at http://www.ttender.com/ .

Good luck!
