Nicholas Smith has the VL A-A for $1099, so paint the extra stripes on it, that's a great price!

Charlie is sold out on the Pennsy per web page, but I jump on and brought the NdeM for $100 less. I am a fan of different road names, plus a hundred bucks.........

Thanks Robert!
Personally, I think my 21" cars will look pretty good on my home layout. Might see overhang on the O-72 and O-80 curves, but they will look fantastic on the long straights.
Jim
And they'll have to be long, with a train measuring 16 1/2 feet!
My Columbian set - scale E7 with (6) 21 inch scale cars comes out to about 12 feet.
Jim
Don't know about that math. The E-7 AA, without a B unit, and 6 21" cars, with the coupler space between each of the engines and the cars, runs between 14 and 15 feet. And that's without the B unit. In any case, with enough straight-away, it's going to take a very large layout to run such a train. For those with such layouts, it's fine.
Another thing to look at on these blowouts is the Lionel 3 year warranty is about to run out.
But you're paying for the V/L warranty anyway when you buy them right after they hit the streets initially. While Lionel may provide some "good will" service for you at these blow-out prices, even if they don't I wouldn't let that deter me from purchasing at this deep of a discount level -- provided it's a unit that really interests me. As the saying goes, there's no free lunch in life.
David
We are kind of hoping that NdeM does the crew talk in spanish!!!! We could learn a second railroad language.
Bob, these are still cataloged so the 3 years is still valid.
Does anybody make a G scale Centipede?
Bob, these are still cataloged so the 3 years is still valid.
Even makes the deal sweeter!
THEY ARE SELLING QUITE QUICK
...
but here to find out the item is over the 3 year rule and has no warranty, the dealer has to eat the repair bill, so now the dealers are selling the items at reduced price to get rid of high priced inventory , to me this is called Blowouts.
Gosh, were that only the case with diecast ES44's! It's been how long since those gems were catalog'd, and the prices are still way up there above MSRP... although admittedly I think we've seen the peak, and the craziness is finally starting to cool off.
Ironic how some items defy any sense of logic whatsoever, and other items dealers can't even give away.
David
I think to non train modellers, our hobby defies their logic
You said it Sam!

Hi Charlie; I just purchased my 2nd Centipede unit from your shop. I am overseas now so I have not checked the first A unit which was shipped already. When I asked if the single A unit has a three year warranty, I got an email saying this is one year warranty and it is NOT a VL!!! After reading the Lionel specs for the single A unit, it seems the A unit is NOT a VL, but at the same time the spec says the unit length is 46" and that the single A unit has a Front electrocoupler, what about the rear? is it a dummy? if so, that would be a really silly mistake by Lionel!!! Also, does the single A unit have the rotating roof fans? Now I am not sure what the differences are between the A-A VL and the single A unit. So I guess there are some spec errors in the Lionel site which could have caused me to make some wrong assumptions..
Thanks for sharing your concerns here on this important point.
Although the Centipedes were first offered as Vision Line A-A's (where dummy rear couplers would suffice -- although for VL price shouldn't be an issue) , I sure hope -- and expect -- that Lionel would configure REAR electro-couplers on the single A-unit offerings. These things are collecting enough dust on dealer shelves, so let's hope Lionel got it right for those enthusiasts so moved by the new low price-points to make a purchase.
David
Well, the price structuring and the spec really gave me the impression that the A-A and the A units are identical. Sure I easily missed the word "vision" missing from the A unit headlines, surely something some of us will do easily. But the rest of the info seems to be spec'd identically, though the A unit is NOT 46" long...I think
So why would they price the A-A at about $2200 with a VL spec and 3 year warranty and the single A unit at $1100 (which is exactly half) and give only 1 year warranty and a NON VL status? It does not make sense...I hope some single A Centipede owners will chime in about any spec differences...
Y-3's are all gone now. A few Mohawks left
Hi Charlie, can you find out for me if the single A units have the spinning roof fans as in the A-A set and if they have a rear electrocoupler? A you know, I am out of town for a few more weeks and can't check the two single units I purchased from you....Cheers!
Well, how does a Company sell something with out a explicit warranty stated on the box
exterior? Think it will hold up to NYS regulations?

Sam, Yes it has electro-couplers AND the rotating fans!
Guys, at the rate we are selling them they won't be here long!

At $450 for a single A-unit, that's significantly less than the street-price of ES44 diesels in Lionel's 2015 Signature Catalog. Blowouts aside, it's just another example where Lionel's pricing often makes no sense whatsoever.
David
If you had pennsylvania`s i be on it...
Jojo, if I had PRR's they all would of been gone by now. Don't forfet I have Zephyer sets, Sharknose's, Alton pass. car sets besides the Mohawks and Centerpede's too.

We aim to please!
I posted over on your other thread that the Lionel parts diagram for the single A-unit Centipedes is showing coil couplers on both the front and rear of the locomotive... As we would expect.
Also looks like the rotating fans and drive assemblies are features on the single-A and twin AA Centipedes.
David
David,
That is good news. Lionel's on-line catalog specifically states front electrocoupler with no mention of rear ones. They should update their description.

I bought the VL AA Demo units and they were really screwed up. Thank goodness for the free shipping back to Lionel cause those suckers are H E A V Y. One of the smoke units didn't work and the rear coupler on the rear A unit didn't work and when you tried to set the smoke volume the engines just made weired noises and wouldn't move when scrolling up the throttle. Also with the smoke set on low and the engines running on the layout, they would just stop with the headlight blinking like it didn't have a signal. We will see how the repairs go when they send them back. Lionel service has been pretty good to me so I'm sure they will fix them. And they will stay fixed??? I hope!!!

Ron, don't feel too bad. Lionel marketing mangement has a TON of mis-information to update. For one, they're still showing all those cancelled 18" aluminum passenger sets on their shipping schedule.
Gotta give Lionel credit where credit is due though... they've always had their act together regarding parts and customer service. Too bad all the money they spent relocating a well-oiled operation couldn't have been spent on other areas of the company sorely in need of major improvement.
