I'm thinking of buying the prewar O scale version of the Blue Comet. Any chance that I could find it at York? Even just a passenger car would be fine.

You may find a few and possibly none. Hard to tell. But more than likely there will be a couple but at handsome price if they are in good shape. Some of the folks think they are sitting on 24k Gold and price it accordingly. While another has it priced to sell. As large as York maybe, its not guaranteed that a sampling of everything ever made will be there for sale.
Wishing you good luck in your hunt!
Pretty decent...all depends what people bring.....I would look Blue/Silver/White/Red in that order....then Orange/Purple.
Red has always been heavier in old Flyer in my opinion.....Blue/Silver/White always seem more Lionel-heavy in the expected proportion.
Have I analyzed this scientifically......no....but it's an impression from regular York attendance since 83.

Yes you will see some at York, and lots of other goodies. As stated before, prices may be all over the place. If you're still looking post-York, email me, I know of one for sale. Enjoy the experience.

Allegheny has it right. Many times I have gone to York looking for a specific item, and come up empty. Sometimes the item just wasn't there, other times there were some there, but not in the condition I wanted or the price was too high. But if everything was easy to obtain, collecting wouldn't be as much fun.
That written, I would be surprised if there weren't a few original prewar Lionel Blue Comets there.
Stout auction last Saturday on blue comet, Lots 1024-1031 will give you an idea of going prices. Remember to add 19% to price.

People (bidders) often get caught up in "auction fever". IMHO, the prices that Stout realizes are often rather high.
I'll take my chances with finding a set at York. I'd be fine with buying some of the coaches and buying the engine at a later date.
Well did you find/purchase the comet you were looking for?
I scored one at the last Colorado Toy Train Group auction for 90 bucks. It's a well done repaint and runs great.
