Seems a bit far away.  But the happiest people on the planet are the executive staff at Lionel.  You see the Silver Birkshire 115th Anniversary addition locomotive was just slightly less popular than anticipated.  Yes, the president has Engine #1 proudly displayed in his office and to be sure Mike Reagan has Engine #2 on his fireplace mantle. Engine numbers 3,4 and 5 were purchased the previous year (2015) by three Lionel fanatics who have not opened the box yet, because they are afraid of devaluing the precious "collectors item".

Hold on, why are the executives so happy if only three of these engines were sold?  Because this year they are not giving out $$$ for Christmas bonuses.  You guessed it.  EVEREY EMPLOYEE will get a Silver Birkshire 115th Annerversary Edition locomotive.  And, if anybody gripes or complains, that person will be rewarded with a second engine.

Clark W. Griswald (hired on by Lionel as a consultant in late 2016) was quoted as saying: "I sure do miss the good old days when Mr Shirley gave all his employees a full year membership to the jelly of the month club."  Cousin Eddie could not be reached for comment.

If the number is truly as low as rumored (250?) you may want to contact your favorite dealer to get on his "list".

250 is a pretty small number, but you probably can get one.  The dealers themselves don't probably yet know how many they will be allocated (assuming the number is that low)

There are currently two of this still for sale at this very minute.

if you're not aware, copyright notices require the date (of first publication) indicated.

frankly i doubt if it's even necessary for a picture of this toy, though.
graffiti just became the second ugliest thing i can imagine riding the rails.

I think I saw them for sale at York... of course the seller(s) took them home with them.

I know I saw two of them and they were still there late Friday on my second pass through the halls.  At the price asked, it wouldn't surprise me if they went home with the sellers.

That is one great looking locomotive, however the out of place logo on the tender ruins the appeal.

Subtlety by having the engine numbered 115, and having a clean tender would have made this a desirable item.

Really - I just never caught on to these gold / chrome plated eye candy locomotives...

Probably the most tastefully done gold plated engine was done in a painted gold flake:

But the only Gold engine that won me over is the famous Lionel Standard Gauge 7 E:
