Picked up the new Railing CP Holiday train engine last week from local dealer... its a beautiful train...love the sound sets in it...I posted some pictures of the new packaging design that MTH is using...I've never experienced it before...its different for sure... I miss the styrofoam inserts but I understand MTH may just being trying to cut some costs with new packaging...

Neat! Is there a 1:48 live band in that second boxcar with the doors cracked open? What times the show?
Nice job MTH! Dare I say, that set would look better under the tree than a PE set
I picked my engine up today from Engine House Hobbies. Several cases came in of CP, Christmas, NS and UP as well. Very happy. As I said, the box qualifies for an episode of "Modern Marvels" on the History Channel.
HEY MTH - Can we get a matching, Christmas light decorated, caboose to go with it? I'll put up the money right now for one if offered.

Got mine this past week also and it looks and runs great. The new packing i assume will not be on every engine but was designed for the ones that have the led lights.
I do think MTH should use the box for all their diesels.

I agree on the caboose.
I wonder what kind of cars MTH has up their sleeve for 2018 Christmas. We all need more lights.

A caboose would be nice...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I got the Norfolk southern engine but I would like more cars and a caboose for sure.
A caboose would be cool, but they had the vintage observation cars at the end of the real CP Holiday Trains. That's why MTH made those to go with it.
Rob,
Do they have multiple observation cars behind the real CP holiday train? The reason I ask is MTH has 3 CP observation cars cataloged with this set in their flyer.
Here's a nice write-up of the CP Holiday Train with some photos and a video that nicely documents the train's consist.

I know MTH has already announed a Premier Line "stage car", 20-93751, for later this year. And it would be nice to see a few other specialty cars offered as well, like a generator car perhaps. Given the popularity of MTH's locomotives and rolling stock with LED's this season, I'm sure we'll see more Holiday Train add-on announcements down the road. York is just around the corner!

Anyone bought the RK observation cars?

I'm be really surprised if they don't announce the platform car in RailKing as well as I have no doubts that the RK version of the locomotive and cars outsold Premier by far. Especially since the RK version was announced first.
I am anxious to see what other lighted stuff MTH releases as the houses and bridge were also big hits and really look nice. I'm also curious to see what Lionel's answer to all of the lighted stuff will be. I do think that we will reach a point where there are too many lights between the trains and the bright LED buildings that it will all be too much. But until then, I'll enjoy the ride.
" Rob, Do they have multiple observation cars behind the real CP holiday train? "
Yes. When I saw it on 11/30/17 in Windsor, Ontario they had 4 mixed coaches at the end of the train. Santa Clause made his entrance from one of these cars. All in all, it was a neat thing to see. I was not familiar with the performers they had on the stage car. seeing as how I am from the US, but they were lively. I would do it again.
The times that I've seen it, it's typically only had one observation car and other vintage coaches for staff, performers, etc.. I assume MTH offered multiple names because there was two trains running. One for Western Canada and one for Eastern Canada and the US. As mentioned, I hope they do more add-ons in the future such as the vintage coaches and maybe a generator car. I have the RK version, but purchased a Premier observation car because the RK version is wrong. CP does not use the closed "solarium" observation cars. I don't believe they have since the '30s? Yes, I know the Dash-8 isn't prototypical either, but it wasn't worth a 200 dollar upgrade to me for the Premier AC4400 that would be used 5-6 weeks a year. Either way, CP has gone to the GP20C-ECO, so I guess it's a moot point. I'm holding out to see if they will make a RK stage car, but I won't hold my breath. Probably should pre-order the Premier one just in case.
