Step 1 is to determine whether it comes from speaker or running gear.
I'd suggest checking the side rods and related gear, for looseness of a thrown traction tire
thanks
i've already ran with the sound off. it is mechanical. i'll be check the running gear when i get home.
I will hazard a guess that turning the sound off does not necessarily mean that the speaker can't emanate sounds generated in the electronics. Should be relatively easy to determine if sounds are coming from tender speaker or the loco.
I have one loco that made a clciking sound, and found it was caused by a pit on a roller. That would be very rare.
well i checked the speaker. that's not the problem. tightened the rods and bars. checked the rollers. nothing is rubbing. the engine has sat for almost 2 years . tonight i will check the gear box. thanks so for for the help
