code chain files?

I just downloaded the newest loader program instructions from MTH and am a little confused about code chain files used on PS3 locomotives.What do these files contain, and how do they differ from the old .MTH versions?

They also list boiler firmware for downloading into PS3 locomotives. Is this something new?

Will any of these new files improve the sound quality of my existing PS3 engines as they seem kind of whimpy

to me compared to my PS2 engines?

I run both DCS and Legacy engines on  my layout, and enjoy both of them very much.

My understanding is the chain files control lights, speed, direction, couplers, smoke, etc.  The sound files for a P3 engine are independent from the chain files and are actually sound filles only.  This allows you to install a PS2 sound file into a PS3 engine because it does not interfere with the PS3 chain files and the engine will still run correctly.
