Well, I dunno about the K-Line GG1, nor the Williams traditional. (Which is why I was asking?) But the RMT GG1 I have is smaller, but also longer, lower, and slimmer {and maybe even a bit truer in proportions?} than the bulky and stubby Lionel postwar traditional sized GG1. I guess maybe I'll have to see an actual K-Line GG1 to compare it's size to my RMT one...

Maybe posting a photo of it on a piece of track alongside an item of  known size might help.

How about a picture of your GG-1?

I believe they are the same. RMT got this when the K-Line items were split up.

That also was my understanding.  The full length doors and wire grab irons on the K-Line/RMT models are the easily recognized cosmetic difference between them and all other (Lionel, Railking, Williams) traditional semi scale GG1’s.

The RMT, OLR, K-line GG1s are the same with no difference and are all made by the same company that made K-line.

Correct. Ownership of the GG1 and other K-Line tooling, which was used by the Sanda Kan factory in China to produce K-Line’s models, was transferred to the factory by Maury Klein to pay off his debts following his legal entanglements with Lionel around 2008.

Sanda Kan, in turn, was bought by Kader (Bachmann’s parent company), who retained most or all of the K-Line tooling and still produces certain models for model train companies, presumably including RMT and Menards (both unverified publicly by either company) on a fee basis.

Lionel also used some of the K-Line tooling for two years under the K-Line by Lionel branding until Kader ended Sanda Kan’s relationship with roughly 70 manufacturers worldwide, including Lionel, in 2010.

WBB/Bachmann has gone on record that they(& Kader/Sanda Kan) have nothing to do with the Menards cars and did not manufacture them.

They are reportedly Chinese(Golden Wheel Die Cast) clones of Williams.

Golden Wheel has been more or less confirmed as a manufacturer for Menards, but Menards product line goes well beyond anything Kader or Sanda Kan ever produced.

Presumably, all of Menards’ MDF HO and O scale buildings come from another factory. I’m not sure of Golden Wheel’s scope of production abilities in that regard.

But those 40-foot boxcars and gondolas that appear identical to Williams cars? I use to think they were clones, too, but I have reason to suspect otherwise now. Again, without official confirmation from Menards.

Perhaps my eyes and/or memories are fooling me, but I remember the traditional sized Lionel GG1's as being higher, wider, and chunkier than my RMT GG1......???

Your eyes and memories are fooling you. The traditional GG1 models are all essentially the same size/shape/contour.

Why not look at some in person and convince yourself?

A noticeable difference exists in MTH's variation of their traditional RailKing GG1 compared to all others.  They beefed up the body slightly, a difference that doesn't become obvious unless examples are compared side by side.  For a short period it was marketed by Lionel when both companies had a relationship.  Lionel retooled, returning to exact PW dimensions while the RK version continues to this day.  A nice touch with the PS3 version is the directionally controlled automatic pantographs.

Well, your hands and eyes (and mine!) were a lot smaller in the days of the original Lionel GG1s.
