I replaced the fan motor in the GP35, no problem, works great.  However, when I removed the connector in the rear of the shell, as you can see, I really mangled it.  My fingers do not fit in that space and I have no specific tool ( I tried a chip puller. Didn't work and I have no idea if there is such a tool)  other than pliers and you can see how well that worked.  I have a few questions:

1. What are these type of connectors (plugs) called, generically and how are they sized (nomenclature). If I were looking for a male plug for this, what would I search for?

2. Is there a tool to separate these plugs safely and what's it called?

I've found 'kits' on Amazon that look like they may work, different size connectors, and kits with pre-crimped cables, etc.

Thanks.

Well, it looks like the JST-PH 2.0mm pitch connector to me.  There is no tool that I'm aware of, I normally use a small straight slot screwdriver to work them out of the socket.  I've been known to nip the locking nubs off the shell to lower the removal force for places where they're not likely to come apart.

Thanks much John.  I'll go looking for that connector.

You might be able to bend back the locking tab on the metal female pin with a tiny screwdriver.  Then reinsert into connector to click and lock.   Give it a slight tug test before connecting to shell lighting board.

I doubt you have to do anything to the contact.  The JST-PH connector locking tabs are not fragile like the ones you picture, they're stamped into the contact and actually very rigid.

The thing you might have to do is push the plastic locking tab on the connector body in before re-inserting the pin.

I did as suggested by gunrunner, bent the plastic locking tab. I was able to reinsert the one that pulled out.  I also pulled out the pin that held the ground wire which I broke off.  I soldered the wire on the pin, reinserted it into the connector. I also ordered some new connectors (kit) in case my DIY fix doesn't hold up.  But I figure there shouldn't be any reason for that wire/connector to separate again. Well, until I have to replace the motor again.     In which case I'll be prepared! The rear lights are working correctly.  Thanks again guys for your help.
