Just received my LV 2-8-0 yesterday and was quite pleased with the model until I saw the "ON/OFF" switches on both sides labelled in WHITE just below the cab!!  I don't know if Lionel did this on earlier models but I was quite surprised to see this done this way.

I am sure a lot you will think I am being petty.  I understand why it was done: there was no room on such a narrow piece of the casing, but at least make it a less obvious color that doesn't stand out as much...a medium grey maybe?  However, the "bluetooth" switch markings ARE engraved into the casting on the underside of the model and it is written very small.  Lionel has had "smoke" and "program" switches on their models well before "bluetooth" switches... why couldn't these two labels have also been casted in to the mold as well?

In Lionel's defense, some of the words are blocked by the detailing.  In fact, you can't even get your finger on the smoke switch; you have to use a pencil or the like to change the position.

I've designed my layout for the trains to be a more off an "eye level".  I am wondering how much of an eyesore this will be when I take it to my layout next weekend.  LOL

On the plus side, they did do a good job with the distance between the cab and tender.  I am also happy to see that the classification lights are bipolar.

I wonder how much effort it would have been to put a swinging bell on this unit...it stands out so prominently on this model...it would have added a nice touch!

I looked at my C&O which was the last run of these engines and it has the same markings.  Never noticed it before, now I can’t not see it.  Thanks for pointing it out😐.

My apologies for bringing that to your attention.  I had the same experience with the observations pointed out with the "flaws" of the new SD-50s conversation a few weeks ago.

Although, you have answered my question about that being done on earlier runs.  This leads me to believe I may have too critical of a eye on detail since it has never before seen as an issue.

I might try Boilermaker1's suggestion and see if that improves the appearance.

Again, my apologies jstraw124.

No apology necessary.  I am the one that should apologize.  My dry humor does not translate well on the internet.

I just received my Lionel Black River & Western #60 Consolidation, and it also has the switch indicators on the side. So far, to my surprise, I'm happy to say the engine runs flawlessly. It sounds great, smokes as it should (even the whistle-steam effect), and it pulls 6 Lionel heavyweight passenger cars with ease; no gear-jamming as was predicted to happen.

Given my experience with brand-new Lionel engines over the past year, I wasn't very optimistic when #60 arrived. However, given the excellent operational performance of this engine, I'm more than willing to overlook the lettering. The one thing I wish they had done differently was to put the full name of the railroad on the tender instead of just "Black River." Other than that, I'm very happy with it.
