From what I see, it looks like if you buy a new Command Control Accessory, the saw mill for example, you can only control it from a CAB 1 or CAB 2, you can't operate it from a traditional push button.  The older accessories, can be controlled by a push button or the CAB1/CAB2 if I were to add the ASC2.  If I like to have the push button for kids around the layout, I need to stay with the non Command Control Accessory.

Just want to verify.

yes, you are correct on the sawmill. Command only. The new Cab1L isn't too costly to get into command control.

I think Lionel made it difficult by not adding the owner's manual links to their product pages.

If you get a product number and visit customer support - select owner's manuals and enter the product number and select it - you will be able to determine the methods of operation available for a particular accessory.
