So the other day I was organizing all my rolling stock and engines getting ready for a big move. Everything is in their boxes when the wife comes in. That's an awful lot of trains she says. I agree and say its time to sell off a lot, as I will not have the space to run them all in our new place. (not that I had the space in our old place) and her response is. "But you like them, can't you just keep them and switch them out from time to time...don't get rid of them" I knew I married the right girl!

So there is two. I thought there was only one.
Nice to know there is two beautiful girls out there.
Nice to know! Good Luck..............
Let's go for three!

Not married yet, but my mom complains that my dad and i collect too much trains. I am selling more stuff lately just because I don't run that stuff hardly anymore.
My wife's solution is she's going to call for a big dumpster when we have to move.
Bossman If you die you could leave me your wife in your will!

My wife has my buddies in River City 3 Railers on speed dial. She knows that my trains go to them in my Will. My trains will be out of the house before I reach room temperature....
can someone please call my wife and set her straight? I may WEAR the pants in my family but she OWNS them!
Bossman,
I married the right lady also, never gives me a hard time about my O Gauge Hobby,
my guns, fly rods or my gun dogs. We have been married almost 40 years now, if you marry the right lady life is great, those men picking incorrectly suffer greatly.

Mine only says that after I sell them...

That sounds like something my wife might say as well. Makes one feel real good to have someone that feels that way.
Bossman, your name fits you well. I love to read posts like yours. Not everyone has your makeup. I hate to read wimpy posts about guys who have to hide trains from the wife.
Bossman, she is the one you really need to keep. This is what I would call a terrific wife.
I am blessed to have the same situation at home. Elizabeth loves the hobby as much as I do and is very supportive of everything I do in our hobby.
Hahaha... Good stuff. My girlfriend just appreciates that it keeps me out of the bars, you know what in my pants, and entertains her kid. She did give me a look when I said I was thinking about getting another VL BB. That was suppressed very easily with her horses feed bill that by all accounts was randomly in the stack of mail I was opening. Timing is everything! I'm thinking 4004 to go along with 4014.
No wife to share the hobby so you guys that have good ones are very blessed for sure. Treat them well-good ones are very hard to find.
My wife says if I buy ONE MORE TRAIN - She is going to Leave me!!
I'm really going to miss her!
Don't want to bust the bubble but the bride and I have been married this October 50 years, she knew that trains were something that I was interested in so, she bought me the first one.

I am no doubt very blessed having my wife. She supports me 100% in the hobby all the time. She even goes to train shows and being the professional shopper she is, she always finds neat things and gets a good price.
Every once in a while I make the trip to York and she is always excited to go with me. And I have to admit that she is a far better finder and negotiater than I ever will be. I swear she can spot a good deal 200' away sitting in a box under a table.
I am very lucky in deed she said yes 47 years ago.

Well, that is a slower purchase.....great choice!

Thank you for your post. Please advise on planned location of said dumpster.
My wife's father was a Southern Pacific Railroad man. She still keeps his old RR hat, lunch box and even some marker lights from steam engines. She bought me my first MTH engine years ago. She loves to come down to the layout and watch me "work". She knew my old Nikon was on its last legs and today for my birthday bought me a new Nikon D7100 with two lenses. It will come in handy for my next OGR article. Even has WF so I can look at my shots on the Ipad. Don
I could collect rare, expensive peanuts, for all she cares, as long as I am at home doing it.
I love these stories. It is so refreshing to see men that are men. Special thanks to the great woman who are with them. Buy more trains and enjoy life.
By the titled my first response in my mind was that could be a dangerous thing to do. Then I read what you where talking about. My wife doesn't complain about my trains either and actually likes looking at them. She likes them. I have bought her a couple of sets she liked. 1 the original coke set from 74 and a old marx cheap set she saw at a flea market she liked I said you like I will buy both have basically sat in the closet since but she owns them the coke set I took the engine completely off the frame and all I could and taped the E-unit up and repainted the frame as it was starting to rust and painted it with a dull black rust inhibitor type paint and put it all back together and that was like 5 years ago looked at it the other day and it looks great still.
My wife likes the trains. Trains are in just about every room. Sometimes when I change things up she says " what did you do with the xxx, I liked that there " :-)
Interesting, "trains are in just about every room". If you walked into our house you would never know I love trains. No photos, no trains on display. But, if you walk down stairs the entire four car garage is trains, trains and more trains. I guess I'm very private with my layout. Only one couple even know I'm building a layout. I would rather share my layout with you OGR people. Don
The bright side is nice to hear about....
The humor, and support, both touching.
Careful gentlemen,
With my Grandmother, it eventually cost Gramps every General set he had .
Like magic, it "just happened".
One day on the phone, the whole shelf section suddenly belonged to her
Everyone thought it was great fun, as she didn't exaggerate often.
She ran with it, and they permanently became Grandmas trains thereafter .
"Can we run a General Gramps?"..... "Ask Her kid! Those aren't even mine" .
My wife loves the trains (she gave up her formal rooms for the layout!) Just hates ALL the da--ed ORANGE reefers. (3 more on the way). She is scheduling a ride on the Steam engine out of Williams, Az. to the Grand Canyon in August for our anniversary. (48 yrs) She also loves our 70 Chevelle SS!!! Got a keeper. Bob
Timely post...I was carrying a bunch of newly arrived pre-order trains into the house tonight.
As she met me at the door, with the 'disapproval look' I told her, "Hold the door and get me a Miller"
My daughter thought it was the funniest thing she'd ever heard and has been saying "Hold the door and get me a Miller" all night around the house.
It was the start to a wonderful evening...
Now if you would of said "hold the door and get me Mrs. Miller from next door" that would be a real man. Don
Mine knows they are part of life, along with reloading, shooting, Harley's and ATV riding. She is happy I am building a layout here in the new place, too often other things precluded finishing a layout in previous houses, now that I am retired, this takes priority right behind prepping the nursery for first grand child due next week.
She would be happy if I cleared some of the trains from closets, which will happen once shelves get built under layout. She has 2 sets of old Lionel 800 series displayed I gave her over the years.
My wife supports all this 150%. I add that extra 50%, because when we're at a train show, she's the one that points to that neat passenger set or other car, and says, 'You need to get that." The guy I bought from when she said that was flabbergasted.
She's also the one that helps suggest where to locate stuff on the layout (because I ask her opinion) and because she has great tastes in other areas of life too.
If you are willing to involve them, and they love you for what you are and do, then it's all good...
I am most fortunate. It only costs me the occasional Cadillac, new plants or furniture pieces, and sometimes being happy with some iffy recipe she's attempted.

Seams many of us are lucky in having wives that not only support us in this hobby but also enjoy this hobby. Friends of mine are into different hobbies such as RC airplanes, restoring 60's muscle cars, golf, plastic and wood craft model kits, etc. and have their wives support. I am going to say something that should be said eventhough it does not conform to Forum posting critera, many years ago in the mid-1980's, both my wife and I were in our middle 30's and single, met at a dance and started dating. Very early in the dating cycle, she said that whoever she married was to be her best friend, this struck me as very true something I was looking for, we married in 1986 and never regretted it.
Both of us have mutual respect for each other and share our life interests, sorrows and challenges and help each other, the true essence of a best friend.

I'm with you Don.
My wife tells all our friends that there is an "underground railroad" that brings trains into our basement when she is not looking and leaves them there.

LOL... that is called a "walk out basement" here in Michigan....
My wife has been good about my trains. Over the 4th weekend, she got off the phone with a friend whose husband passed away suddenly from a stroke, at 56. She walked into the room and said "Good, I am glad to see you running trains." She knows that trains lower my BP and provide serious relaxation.
With insurance and retirement savings and investments, she jokes that I am worth more to here dead than alive, so its nice she is willing to put up with me and trains for a while more.
Modelrailroader: Look out, it sounds like she is on to you!....
