Eighteen year old TMCC layout, operation virtually flawless.  Has five zones, each connected to a Powermaster.  Control 32 switches via IC control boxes ASC 3000, now Lionel #ASC 6-14182.  Track Power via three post war ZWs, switch power via Z.  Switches are Ross, with NJI motors and rarely if ever  fail.  They may also be controlled, via pushbutton from control panel, but I rarely use buttons.  Have replaced three Powermasters through the years; have two in reserve. Have five CAB 1s for use by multiple operators. Have many  locos-- conventional, a handful of MTH, TMCC and few Legacy models. Considering converting to Legacy.  Some questions: 1.  If Legacy base/CAB 2 and Powermaster bridge replaces TMCC base, will I be able to operate above configuration? 2.  Will I be able to use CAB 1s and CAB 2 simultaneously with this configuration? 3. As Powermasters "die", may I replace each  with 1L Powermaster and continue to operate as configured with Bridge, or must I replace all original design Powermasters and remove bridge?  Would I be able to operate mixed Powermasters (originals & 1 L) with CAB 1 or all five Powermaster 1Ls with CAB 1s, or do I need a CAB 1L?  What is major advantage of installing Legacy Base/CAB 2 on my layout, as designed, versus Legacy 1L Base, 1LPowermasters? Remember, I want to run conventionally as well. Finally, Will CAB 1s be useable with either the Legacy/Bridge set up, a mixed Powermaster set up or Base 1L, Powermaster 1L arrangement?

gunrunnerjohn,  Thanks for your reply.  I was hoping to  hear from you.  I believe I understand your response. In short, the Powermaster Bridge is only good if I install the full Legacy (990, Cab 2) package. So assuming I go that route, will I be able to intermix Powermaster 1Ls with the original Powermasters, as the earlier versions die out?  I would prefer not to have to replace all five good Powermasters at once. Will I be able to use CAB 1s and CAB2s simultaneously, or will I have to use CAB 2s and CAB 1Ls and ditch the CAB 1s?  Sure would hate to have to do that, but understand, if necessary. Will I be able to control my switches with this arrangement? Would you recommend this to be the best approach or should I simply install a Legacy Base 1L and five Powermaster 1 Ls, recognizing that I won't have access to the entire Legacy suite?

You can't use the CAB1's with the Legacy PowerMaster Bridge as that's where the communications clash occurs.  It sort of works, I tried it once.  However, it was really odd in the responses, sometimes the signals got through, sometimes they got garbled.

You can use the old PowerMasters with the Legacy PowerMaster Bridge, and the Legacy PowerMasters receive track signals directly, so they're no problem.  You'll just have to retire the CAB1(s) and the TMCC base.

Other than talk to the old PowerMasters, you can do anything the CAB1 can do from the Legacy CAB2, and a whole lot of things the CAB1 can't do.
