In the search for a period correct Caboose for my Williams SP Cab Forward I have found an atlas 2 Rail Caboose with the correct early 1950's paint scheme, and a 3 rail version in the later the post 1955 orange ends paint scheme. Would it be more economical and practical  to purchase both models and swap the bodies, as opposed to purchasing the Atlas #66035 Truck Kit, plus Pickup rollers and lighting kit? Advice graciously received. The extra 2 rail caboose could always be used a display model.

I agree with Laidoffsick (Doug) above.  The AtlasO 3-rail caboose trucks are really nice, especially the latest version with the scale-thickness sideframes and raised "manufacturer" data/lettering.  

In fact, I liked them so much that I bought a pair to replace the OEM trucks on the MTH caboose pictured below...
