In the search for a period correct Caboose for my Williams SP Cab Forward I have found an atlas 2 Rail Caboose with the correct early 1950's paint scheme, and a 3 rail version in the later the post 1955 orange ends paint scheme. Would it be more economical and practical to purchase both models and swap the bodies, as opposed to purchasing the Atlas #66035 Truck Kit, plus Pickup rollers and lighting kit? Advice graciously received. The extra 2 rail caboose could always be used a display model.

For what it's worth, The Western Depot had custom painted SP bay window cabooses made by K-Line (in 3-Rail), many years ago. Since they obviously had to pay for a "minimum quantity run" from K-Line, the Western Depot may still have some of those SP correctly painted bay window cabooses in stock. I purchased one, way back when, and am still very impressed with it.
Thanks for the information. I checked these Cabooses on the Western Depot website, they have three painted for the later 1950's scheme with orange ends and orange Bay Window section ends. These are impressive models, however I am after the early 1950's version which is available in Atlas Trainman O. Thanks again.
Just get the 2R caboose and buy the Atlas 3R caboose trucks. They come with rollers and wires. Convert it to LEDs with a dimmer and you have the best of both worlds.
Here's said caboose with dimmable LEDs I did a couple years ago.
Thanks, dilemma solved. I looked at the Atlas #66035 Caboose Trucks online this morning, unfortunately the photo didn't show the pickup rollers. Your option is the way to go, thanks.
I agree with Laidoffsick (Doug) above. The AtlasO 3-rail caboose trucks are really nice, especially the latest version with the scale-thickness sideframes and raised "manufacturer" data/lettering.
In fact, I liked them so much that I bought a pair to replace the OEM trucks on the MTH caboose pictured below...

An impressive Caboose. I have ordered the 3 Rail Caboose Trucks from MB Klein, the steam era 2 Rail SP Bay Window Caboose from the Public Delivery Track, and will install LED lighting in the caboose. Looking forward to completing the project.
