Doug,

Good luck.  Times have changed.  I had some older PS1 engines and 3rd Rail engines converted by Mike Regan and Co. located in the Poland,OH area which was an easy drive for me.  EOB and TMCC,it was about $175 each about 5 years ago.  It was costly, but better than trashing those PS1 engines and getting new PS2.  Some guys did their own work,I just did not have the time to learn how and then to execute the job.  I guess that the Electric Railroad is the way to go now.  Perhaps Bob B. or some of the others will speak up about their experiences.  Good luck.

Doug,

If you are doing the upgrade yourself, BUY the boards and what you need from Boxcar Bill off his website. Excellent service and REALLY fast delivery.

Also, I believe he does the upgrade work as well if you are not sure of how to do it. He did not do mine but from speaking to Bill on the phone, he is very knowledgable about command control, etc.

Anyone else here contemplating on parts and/or upgrades, I highly recommend using Bill.

The basic upgrade is pretty easy with the ERR stuff.  If you want to customize the lighting, that will take a bit of time, depending on how elaborate you want to get.

One nice thing about converting PS/1 locomotives to TMCC is they already have the electrocouplers installed, one less mechanical issue to work.

For steamers, you'll have to mount the chuff switch and magnet on a wheel.
