I have a set of decals from a manufacturer that is out of business of an obscure roadname, Kansas Oklahoma & Gulf. Is it possible to copy the decal sheet and make new decal sheets? These decals are on the light blue decal sheets and are white lettering with small white/black/red heralds

Does anyone do this?

Are manufacturer decals protected  by copyright or is just the railroad road name protected in many cases?

The decals would be for my own use.

Images of the KO&G diesels and caboose are located on Mike Condren's great web pages;

I think that what I need is just heralds, there is minimal lettering on the equipment and I believe the numbers can be found in generic decal sheets.

Thanks,

Dan

Contact Stan Cedarleaf  - Stan prints using an Alps so any decal I need with white or one that needs to be placed on a darker surface I buy from Stan.

You're asking a number of different questions.

1. just scanning a old decal sheet and reprinting it never yields satisfactory results IMHO. If the decals are on blue paper when you scan and print the printer will attempt to print blue across the sheet!

Only ALPS printers print white and you need artwork that tells the printer to print white so a scan and print will not work.

2. If you create new art and your art and the original producers art are both correct....they will be the same. And a logo as simple as the one you show would take most graphics guy minutes to do.

The herald/logo you show could be printed on white decal paper and thus not have the white print issue. If you have access to a good laser printer you could make your own.

Good luck...
