Cost of PS1 to Ps 3 upgrade on GP9
Former Member
Does anyone know appx. the cost of upgrading a MTH Premier GP9 that has PS1 to PS3. I have one I have had for years and was gonna sell it and buy a later model but then it occured to me that it may be cheaper to have someone upgrade it.
I was going to add that this loco had no sentimental value to it and also it was reissued in I know PS 2 and possibly 3. I can sell this one with PS1 and probably add 50 to a hundred dollars to it and get the later model and be in much better shape than having mine converted. I plan to dispose of all my PS1 locos because I recently purchased a new MTH DCS system and have lost interest in PS1. Thanks again.
A fellow club member just had an MTH PS-1 Conrtail diesel upgraded to P3. It was done by Vinnie at the NJ HiRailers. Cost including labor was $300. It was about $150 less than a new P3 diesel. The upgrade was amazing and ALL THE FEATURES are there. A your engine is premeire it is worth it
Thanks fore the advice. I have just decieded to sell the PS1 loco and put another 50 to 100 dollars into it and buy a nice used PS2 and I think they have a PS 3 version also. I also have the unpowered one also which I'm gonna keep because I believe the updated versions of it are identicle to the later versions other than maybe the road number. If I still had my eyesight I could do the conversion myself but I am blind now and it would be impossible like a lot of other things are now.
