Custom sounds....can't get it to work

I have also been having trouble with lockup of the handheld while trying to get the custom sounds to work. I was successful getting 1 sound to work,but seem to have lost that custom sound now. It still shows on the display,but when I hit PLAY, I just get static.

 I thought MTH had all these issues fixed with the revL 4.20. My dealer said this is the latest and greatest from MTH.

 If I am using the MIC on the handheld, do I need to press the MIC button while making my custom sound or is the MIC activated by pressing the REC button?

 I only have the 1st edition of Barry's book.

I don't know that he changed anything between versions, but the description for custom sounds in the 2nd Ed. appears to be the same.  The Revisions list from the first edition to the second edition doesn't mention anything changed on those pages of the manual.

If you have the electronic copy, I believe the second edition was a free upgrade.

Custom Sounds has not changed at all between the writing of the 1st and 2nd editions of The DCS O Gauge Companion. However, there are three things of which to be aware when using the Mic button on the remote for any purpose at all.

First, when the Mic button is depressed, all remotes become unable to issue commands for the duration of the button press.

Second, sometimes the remote button can appear to become "stuck"  terminate the acceptance of sound. In this case, typically just a quick press and release puts things right.

Third, it often is necessary to get the microphone right "in your mouth" in order for your voice to be pocked up.

No, that's not the case.

There were several free updates to the first edition, as well as to the 2nd edition (which has 25% more content). However, the two editions are separate products.

Or maybe it wasn't a free upgrade!

To the previous question, it sounds like he should press the MIC button to record his sound if he's selected the remote mic as the input device, right?

Right! there's gotta be a better way,,cheap mic with jack. Much better although don't let you grand-kids get a hold of it.  They luv  the feature.

So why is my handheld locking up when trying to access the custom sounds? Also......Am I right after selecting the handheld remote as my source for the making of my custom sound that I do not hit the record button.....push the MIC button instead? Or am I backwards on this.
