Is there some rule of thumb about using DB9 serial cable splitters to get the Data/Comm signal from the TMCC/Legacy output to the various Lionel/IC controllers?

Specifically, I thought about splitting the output from the Legacy cables, into the signal booster to get good signal strength for the controllers. I would guess that each time you split the signal using off the shelf DB9 cable splitters that are readily available on Ebay very reasonably priced you loose strength and that a booster on each leg would make up for the loss as well as add strength to the overall signal.  Any thoughts?

Thanks John

I have one of his boosters and was planning on getting another. I have db9 serial cable splitters that take a single feed and make it two outputs. I am wondering is what the practical limit is on how many of these one-into-two splitters I can use and possibly a way to test the signal that comes out of them - notwithstanding, hooking a TPC/AVC/BPC etc to the output. I'd like to test it before I begin the crawling under the table phase.
