They were lined up for hours waiting to board the first revenue run of the Southern Pacific Daylight Cab Forward. And why shouldn't they be. Behind this beautiful version of the Cab Forward engine were brand new K-Line 21" Daylight coaches.

It did not take very long for the passengers to sit back and enjoy the ride behind the Daylight engine. The engine pulled the 11 cars effortlessly assuring a smooth ride for the passengers. They all enjoyed the terrific whistle and the wonderful sounds emanating from the engine.

All in all, the run was a great success. Rather spectacular addition to the railroad.

A BIG BIG CONGRATS goes to you Brian on your newest addition.  I am sure that train will have few if any empty seats for many years to come.

I am not alone when I say I would LOVE a video so that we can enjoy the sights and sounds of this monster passing by on one of your main lines.

ENJOY, my friend.

BTW, What is that handsome silver trian elevated in the background?

"If you have any photos of the K-Line cars close up, I would love to see them."

For sure, Alex. Check out tomorrow's Weekend Photo Fun Thread for the Observation car. I love the K-Line 21" passenger cars and the SP Daylight is no exception. I will take additional photos of the cars tomorrow as well.

Congrats PTC!!! Truly a beauty....

I have one too (Loco); the Smoke, sounds, Whistle AND the Horn are fantastic to my ears!!!

Passenger Train Collector, Your Southern Pacific Cab Forward Legacy Locomotive Pulling that Beautiful K-Line 21 inch Southern Pacific Set (11Cars) is Just Beautiful. The Colorful Daylight Scheme Cab Forward Legacy Locomotive is by far, the best Looking Steamer I have ever seen. YOUR TRAIN IS A WOW!!! A Video would be fitting, but My IMAGINATION is Running Wild....Thank You....This is truly the Best Hobby in the World.....

Aw, this just reminds me of those days in WWII when we went to Grandma’s house in Glendale every other Saturday. Her house was a one block walk to the SP mainline which ran along San Fernando Road. It seemed like a Cab Forward with a long freight would go by every ten to fifteen minutes. From Glendale, they would head up through Soledad Canyon, cross the dessert to Mohave, up the hill to Tehachapi, down through the loop to the San Joaquin Valley. Then to Sacramento and beyond. Wonderful memory, seeing them snort by at “speed.”

Brian,

Do the crew get a clean ride while the passengers choke on the smoke?   How is the color match between the the engine and cars?  My MTH GS-2 has a more reddish color than the K-line cars, haven't seen Lionel matched.  Still prefer the K-lines with their close fitting diaphragms over some other cars.

Your layout shows off the consist to beautiful effect.  I too look forward to seeing your passengers in motion.

As the designated acquisition broker for capital equipment, you have a free pass to ride anytime.   Your recommendations on the GMToT and FTs are in service, and the F7 Yellow Bonnets are anticipated with baited breath.  Please sort out the E8 quagmire.

Thanks much.

Brian,

I know you have been waiting for some time to pose that picture, and it was worth the wait.  Stunning.

The K-Line 21" cars in the SP scheme look fantastic.  A real winner with the wonderful Lionel locomotive.  As someone told me recently, 'you have great taste'

Can't wait to see the pictures tomorrow in the weekend photo thread.  Love your style, partner!

"Do the crew get a clean ride while the passengers choke on the smoke?"

"How is the color match between the engine and cars?"

Bill, you raise some very good points. The design team for the passenger cars made sure that the passengers were not subjected to the smoke from this engine. They needed to because this baby sure smokes up a storm thanks to Lionel and Mega-Steam.

As far as the colors are concerned, there is a difference between the engine and passenger cars, but not objectionable.

When Lionel announced the Daylight Cab Forward version, I did not have a set of passenger cars to go with it. Over the past three years, we have been active in converting much of our passenger train inventory to K-Line 21" cars. So it was a natural move for me to find a set of K-Line Daylights to go with this engine. I am not disappointed with the look.
