Hello  I am sure this has been covered and I am finding lots of great posts.  Here's the thing I am new to O scale 2 rail  played with HO for years but never built a serious layout and when I was doing that Digital was just in its adolescence   I am very confused as to the pros and cons of DCS or for that matter DC. A good friend of mine who is a 2railer swears by straight DC where as the majority are switching or building in DCS.  Is there a good resource somewhere on line that lists pros and cons with both.  I want to clarify this issue before I buy a lot of locos and start laying track. I am going to have a fairly simple 20x25 layout... one continuous looping mainline with a shortline spur running most of the way around the layout.  at most I would likely have 2-3 trains running at anytime with 2 being most likely.  i know sound comes into play in this and at this point I am not sure I actually like the diesel sounds and crew talk really does nothing for me.  I do like bell and horn and if I am not mistaken most locos will run those basic features on DC is that correct? Also continuous lighting is an issue with dc but I am sure a battery could be mounted in the loco to operate lights. can anyone put me straight or point me into an unbiased resource that will help me decide which is best for me.  I will likely be running mostly Atlas locos and perhaps some MTH premier scale wheel versions.  Layout is mostly planned on paper but no rails are down and I dont have much invested in Power yet so I am flexible to do whats best not just make do with what I have.

I am very happy that MTH is installing DCC in their engines as I can now buy from MTH and have just the DCC like my Atlas models. I like MTH because they aren't limiting production of engines in the new era like Atlas. I don't like running the DCS as I have to stop the engine, start it in neutral like Lionel and then get to run it in the opposite direction. I like DCC, stop and throw the direction and be done. I just hope that MTH produces an accompany part to add the DCS to to make DCC available to  older 2 rail models. I can, I guess part out the motor and run them as dummies but DCC is where I want to end up.
