I know this is an O scale forum, but if I hook up my rail king transformer that used to come in their sets with the brick to a dcs commander is it too much to power a 4x12 HO layout? Will it harm anything?

I went ahead and tried hooking the z1000 brick to the dcs commander for my HO layout and the train will power up and run wide open but the commander has no control, if I put two locos on the track, one runs wide open but the other one turns on but sits still. Still no command of the locos.
You need a DC power supply for your HO trains with the commander. The Railking brick is Ac
if you are running a HO mth engine, you should be able to run it off of AC or DC power with the DCS Commander. I can run my pocono on a Z1000 ac brick at home, or a dc power supply over at the club.
old ironsides, when you plug the brick into the commander. do you push the dcs button on the left side of the commander before you turn the wheel up to power the engine.
The AC brick is fine. The dcs commander converts the AC input to DC. It actually comes with that brick in one configuration. Need more info on your trains, conv, or dcs, or DCC. G
Sounds like one loco is MTH and the other is conventional
I am running two MTH engines. I had been running the wheel up then hitting the dcs button. The times I did not run the wheel first it still did not give me command of the engine. The only reply I get is if I hit the reverse horn, the engine number blinks but still won't let me change the engine number or gain control.
plug in the power brick cord into the commander, then push the dcs button. then hit the engine button, if no engine comes up, follow the directions in the commander book to add a engine and give it a address.
